# `GSFont safeNameForName:`

*Instance Method*

A name that is unique among the local glyphs in the font.

## Declaration

```swift
func safeName(forName glyphName: String) -> String
```

- (NSString *) safeNameForName:(NSString *) glyphName;

safeNameForName_(glyphName: str) -> str
```

## Parameters

- `glyphName` — The glyph name to check.

## Discussion

The supplied name is returned unchanged when it is available. Otherwise, an existing three-digit numeric suffix is replaced or a new one is appended.
