# `GSFont safeNameForGlyph:`

*Instance Method*

A name that is unique among the local glyphs in the font.

## Declaration

```swift
func safeName(for glyph: GSGlyph) -> String
```

```objc
- (NSString *) safeNameForGlyph:(GSGlyph *) glyph;
```

```python
safeNameForGlyph_(glyph: GSGlyph) -> str
```

## Parameters

- `glyph` — The glyph whose name to check.

## Discussion

The glyph’s current name is returned unchanged when it is available or belongs to the glyph itself. Otherwise, a three-digit numeric suffix is appended.
